In an interview with Mashable, Chris Johnson said he’s hoping to work on “game design, production, and other production related tasks” for a studio he co-founded in 2010, Mojang.
He said the game is currently in beta, but that it’s a great opportunity to learn about a wider variety of game design and production roles.
“The goal is to help develop a solid and growing studio and eventually expand into the commercial and monetization space,” Johnson wrote.
“I’m also very excited about my dream of becoming a game developer, and the opportunity to work with other like-minded people in the industry.
I’d love to be a part of it.”
For his part, Johnson said that he was initially drawn to the game after a few friends introduced it to him, and that he “never thought it would be this big.”
He said he worked on it at night, and “was a complete idiot” at first, but then “got really excited about it.”
“I’m pretty sure my friends are all just like me,” he said.
“They’re all into the game.
They love it.
They play it, and they like the idea of having an easy to use game with no need for a server or client.
They like the sandbox element.
They’re all fans of the game.”
In fact, Johnson’s co-worker, John Schaeffer, told Mashable that he and the two men first became friends because they both were into Minecraft.
They began working together on a server that eventually became Minecraft: Minecraft: Adventure Mode.
“I would do most of the coding on the server, and he would be a heavy player,” Schaeff said.
They eventually got together to work out some of the code issues, and Schaefer became a server administrator.
“After he got the server going, we went on to create Minecraft: Adventures Mode, which we released in 2013,” Schueffer said.
“It became a very successful game.
And now we’re all doing Minecraft games and doing all kinds of cool stuff with it.
I’m not going to lie.”
Schaeffer said that, because of Mojang’s history, he has a strong interest in the game, and has been “working on it as a game designer” since his former job.
He described his job as being “very hands-on,” and said that the studio is focused on “just doing what we do best, which is developing Minecraft games.”
Johnson said that Mojang “is a huge part of our lives,” and that “we have a lot of fun playing it.”
He added that he feels lucky to have “been involved with this company for so long.”
“Minecraft has really grown in popularity over the years, and it’s the best game we’ve ever made,” Johnson said.
