Westwood Village, a suburban West Covina, California, community, has been ranked as one of the top 10 coolest cities in the United States by TechCrunch.
TechCrunch reported the ranking based on the number of reviews from users who wrote about the neighborhood, the amount of activity there, and its popularity on Google Places.
The article also noted that Westwood’s median income is $52,000 and its unemployment rate is 4.5 percent.
The top cities on the list were listed as Chicago ($66,400), Austin ($59,600), Los Angeles ($53,800), Denver ($52,900), San Francisco ($49,800) and New York ($49:60).
The Westwood neighborhood was also named one of TechCrunch’s “20 Coolest Urban Areas,” by a user who identified himself as “TheDeezer.”
The top 20 cities in terms of popularity for TechCrunch readers were as follows: Chicago, $66,100; Austin, $59,200; Los Angeles, $53,700; Denver, $52.900; San Francisco, $49,700.
TechCrowd, a crowd-sourced community that tracks the most popular communities on the web, also ranked Westwood as one the best cities for tech workers in 2018.
Techcrunch noted that TechCrunch is an online community that is created and maintained by readers, and the community has a “long history of building communities and communities of creators.”
The tech hub has a population of more than 2 million, according to data from Census Bureau.
Westwood residents also are more likely to work in the tech sector than residents of the San Francisco Bay Area, where tech companies such as Facebook, LinkedIn, Apple and Google dominate.
Westbrook residents are also more likely than their peers to live in neighborhoods with a high number of housing units, according the TechCrunch article.
According to the TechCrust community, Westwood has a median household income of $51,500, while the Bay Area is at $60,000.
The TechCrunch ranking is the first of TechCrickets popularity rankings.
Tech Crunch is a community-driven website that provides information and analysis about the Internet, technology, business and other topics.
TechCrunch is one of four websites that feature a ranking of the best tech hubs in the U.S. TechBuzz, another popular community-focused website, uses data from Google Places and other sources to provide data on the city’s popularity.
